Hi! Warrior Fans:
Great to be back! I am very excited to get into the new year.
I will be teaching physical education and character education this year. I firmly believe that health, physical education, and character education are very important parts of our school curriculum. Students who are active and make healthy choices perform better in the classroom and have a better quality of life. The overall health of our nation can be improved through education. Developing quality character traits such as respect, compassion, honesty, and perseverance can positively effect a person's life and the life of those around him/her.
The State of Ohio has changed the physical education standards on the Ohio Report Card. The purpose was to have students assessed in physical education components and to use those scores to rate our strengths and weaknesses. The wording has changed to include:
A physically literate individual...
Demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.
Exhibits responsible, personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
Recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.
This has helped us make our curriculum stronger and our students have a better idea of how they rate in the area of fitness, movement, skills, and coordination. This requirement has been beneficial to our students' health and well being. Our hope is that we will see a decrease in health problems and an increase in student achievement.
